Very recently Adrian and I were having this insane discussion about One Piece while planning content for our second YouTube channel: Simply Otaku. Us both being huge One Piece fans it quickly plunged into fan theories about the manga. With the Straw Hat crew finally on Wano, and Zoro of course lost as per usual it seemed fear for us to debate Kaido’s Devil Fruit as he’s the biggest mystery in this current arc.
Kaido of the Beasts, also known as the “Strongest Creature in the World”, is the captain of the Beasts Pirates and one of the Yonko. He is the third to be mentioned by name and the last one to debut. He and his crew currently occupy Wano Country. First referred to by Monkey D. Garp at Water 7 and then directly mentioned by Gekko Moriah shortly after he obtained Monkey D. Luffy’s shadow. His title of Yonko was revealed just after the Straw Hat Pirates defeated Moriah.
With him being the main antagonist of the Wano Country Arc and one of the central antagonists of the Yonko Saga we just had to pick him apart. Oh and we did. Adrian had some theory about him, sorry bro I can’t remember what it was, because I was right. YUP THAT’S RIGHT FOLKS, even though we didn’t record this conversation, I did proclaim that I thought he’s be a Dragon. The signs were always there. The horns, that dragon scale tattoo and those damn long whiskers. It was so clear.
In One Piece chapter 921 “Shutenmaru” (酒天丸), it was revealed that Kaido is in-fact an Eastern Dragon. Yup, that’s right folks. The man ate a Mythical Zoan fruit. His beast from is insanely massive, even managing to make the sky black as he makes his grand entrance. Kaido is so large in-fact that he towers over everyone on the panel, and seems to change the entire mood of everything. Even Jack looks small and insignificant in comparison to him.
So where do we go from here? Oda just possibly broke the power scale again. Frankly I don’t know, but I’m excited for the ride to come. One Piece can be read on VIZ Media along with a lot of other great manga.
