Dusk Driver Switch Looks Best in Handheld Mode

0

I got to try Developer JFI Games Inc., Justdan International Co. Ltd. and PQube new game Dusk Driver at Gamescom 2019 on the Switch and PS4 for the first time and of the two the Switch version had more of my interest.

The anime action-game is based in Taipei’s iconic Ximending district, replacting the look of the location to a great amout of detail. It’s so visually appealing that I assumed the Switch version would chug when running the game, and in a way it did while docked, but removing the tablet and playing it in handheld mode fixes all that. In handheld mode the game runs buttery smooth, textures pop and the overall presentation is better.

That being said, this was a demo and thus there may be differences between the build I played and the version that will be available at release.

The story starts at Exit 6 of the MRT station Ximending, showing a recreation of its streets in a realistic but fantasized world, rendered in beautiful anime style. From there on, players follow ordinary high school student Yang Yumo and experience her fantasy action adventure through Ximending and Youshanding, a mirror world with two faces.

Additionally, Japanese voice actress Kate Mizukiri of sound studio Kotori Voice Inc. will not only play one of the characters, but also perform the exclusive cooperation song “Sensen Shoujo”!

Dusk Diver is coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 worldwide this Autumn.
